I met Guadalupe, March 1, 2011, just two weeks after he had been hospitalized and diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. Lupe was ready to
change his life. I let him know that it wouldn’t be easy; in fact I told him this is going to be a tough road. I let him know that
if he fought and did what I told him to do that he would become healthier.
We started with nutritional changes and light workouts
once a week. His energy increased and a month later he was ready to train with me twice a week. I would let him know what to do for
the rest of the week when we were not together.
Two and a half months later, his doctor had taken him off insulin and placed him on
a medication in pill form. He was improving. The hard work was starting to pay off. We continued the workouts and nutritional counseling.
I slowly increased the intensity of the workouts. At times Lupe would say “You are trying to kill me.” I would reply with “I am trying
to heal you.”
One day six months later, Lupe came to train and let me know that his diabetes doctor had lowered the dose of his medication.
Lupe was still improving and that light for a healthier life was shining bright.
In November, 2011 Lupe’s doctor had taken him off
the medication. We were so excited but the holidays were just around the corner. Lupe had to be strong and smart.
January, 2012, Lupe
came to me with a serious face and said he had bad news. I was on the edge of my seat. He told me that his diabetes doctor didn’t
want to see him anymore. We both laughed. He got me good. Lupe beat Type 2 Diabetes!
Lupe and I still train twice a week. Now Lupe’s
goals are not just staying alive but looking good. Congratulations Lupe!
